How Much Electricity Does a Computer Use

Electricity used by the computer is known as the consumption of the electricity units that are consumed by the computer. The computer users who are much concerned about saving a considerable amount of money on their electricity bills are always in search of adequate information on the amount of electricity that is actually consumed by their computer.

Although, it is also a far complicated task to find the exact rate of units that are consumed by the particular products. For example a computer utilizes electricity ranging from anything between 65 to 250 watts. In addition to this a monitor consumes additional electricity ranging from 35 to 80 watts.

Thus, the variation in the amount of electricity depends upon the type and the kinds of the applications and equipments that are utilized. Some desktops are also accompanied with listed labels that provide a complete theoretical knowledge upon the amount of electricity consumption which they require in average.

Many computers that have faster processors consume more electricity that the computers that posses slow processors. Similarly LCD monitors consume lesser units of electricity as compared to the CRT monitors.  The computer peripherals and accessories like modems, cable net, routers and webcams also increases the units of electricity consumption.

Ultimately everything depends upon the kind of work that a person does on the computer that directly affects the consumption rate per unit. In case a computer user uses his or her computer for web designing, playing video games, surfing internet, editing digital images or videos, there is a also a direct increase in the electricity units.

Many people also believe that using screen savers saves a good amount of electricity units. However this is not true. A screensaver is simply a collection of moving images that aim to protect the computer screen from any static image getting deep-rooted into the computer.

One of the best options for a computer user is to keep the computer on a standby mode to save a substantial amount of electricity units.  In every standby mode a computer generally utilizes only 6 watts besides dropping the electricity consumption of the monitor to the nil level of watts.

It is also cheaper to switch off your computer when not in use rather than keeping it on standby mode and waste some additional units that can be further utilized for some important purpose.

Every user can easily estimate the electricity consumed by his or her computer by keeping the above factors in mind and work accordingly to save electricity.

Switching the needs from a desktop to laptop is another option that not only adds on to the convenience of the user but also saves a considerable amount of electricity units. This is because most of the laptops utilize and consume hardly 15 to 45 watts of electricity consumption on per day basis.
