What are Liver Spots

Liver Spots seem misleading by its name as it has nothing to do with the functions of the liver and are pretty harmless. They are just a symbol of wear and tear of the body as the age passes and appears as brown pigments. These are brown colored spots of freckle size and keep on becoming wider as person grows older. They appear quite often in the people  around 40 or 50 years. Senscence is the biological term given to it for the process of aging. These are the deposits of brownish pigments called lipofuscin. Lipofuscin usually appear outside and inside layer of the skin. Basically, when ultraviolet radiation and aging effects human ability to regenerate, give rise to brown or black blemishes called liver spots on the skin’s surface. Another name for liver spots is senile lentigines. Most common age for liver spots to occur is after 55 and they stars appearing on the back of hands or the forehead and are quite frequently associated with over exposure to the sun. The main reason of their common occurrence is still unknown.

These liver spots can appear any part of the body exposed to the direct sunlight. This includes the face, hands, shoulders, arms. The form is quite close to freckle and can be one inch in diameter. Liver spots cause no harm to health complication. These spots are usually not equal in size, some are i flat, and is tan or light brown, oval or unevenly shaped, and have sharply defined borders. They don’t get darken in sunlight as compared to freckles. Liver spots are not cancerous but still if a spot changes its color or size then do consult a doctor.

Treatment of liver spots is not widely sought by people all around the world. Liver spots can be lightened with skin-bleaching products or removed by freezing with liquid nitrogen. Most people use high protection at least SPF 15 to minimize their appearance and re-occurrence. Consume food high in antioxidants as they slow down the cell damage process. Apart from that cryotherapy, a medical process of freezing the skin or laser treatment can remove liver spots quickly and without side effects.

Another, home made remedies for its treatment include are use aloe, apple cider vinegar, buttermilk, castor oil, lemon juice, onion, horseradish, walnuts, chick peas applied directly on your skin.Supplements like Betacarotene, Bioflavonoids, Potassium, Selenium, and helps in tissue repair.
