What are the Most Common Causes of Late Menstruation
Most of the people think that the main cause behind a missed period or late menses is only pregnancy. No doubt, pregnancy is the most common cause behind a missed or late period but there can be many other reasons for missed periods. This problem is called amenorrhea in medical terms like:
Stress: If you are experiencing stress in your day to day life, then you should try to reduce it by meditation or using other means. Stress can affect your health badly in many ways including late periods. When you are stressed the hormonal levels in your body changes and give rise to late or irregular periods. Overweight or underweight: if you are overweight or underweight, then it can also become the reasons for late menses. Being overweight or underweight can even stop your cycle. So try to lose weight if you are overweight. Make exercise a part of your daily routine and if you are underweight then try to gain some weight. Excessive exercise: if you over exercise, even then you can miss the periods. Women who are athletes usually face this problem. Illness: certain kind of illness can also be a reason for missed periods and if it affects the reproductive cycle or hormonal levels in the body then it will certainly result into amenorrhea. Schedule changes: if you are changing your schedule like you are working overnight and not taking sleep properly, then there are chances for late menstruations. Medication: certain medications like oral contraceptives can cause late periods. Thyroid: have you ever checked your thyroid? If not and you are missing your periods then get it checked. It can also be a cause of late menses. Premenopause or menopause: in aged and elderly women, menopause or premenopause can be the reason for missed periods. Pregnancy: last but not least, pregnancy is the most important and most common cause of missed periods is pregnancy. Go for a simple test of pregnancy if you have periods missed.
The above mentioned reasons are very common due to which most of the women gets missed periods. But if you feel that you are missing your periods because of some other reason and not the above mentioned ones then you should consult the doctor to know the exact reason. There can be some severe and serious reason behind it like it can be Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, certain kind of cancer or some other problem, so better to consult a doctor as soon as possible.
