What are the Symptoms of Appendicitis

The appendix is small appendage and a tube like structure attached to the large intestine which is also called colon. It is located in the lower right portion of the abdomen. There is no function of appendix and even if it will be removed, then you will not find any difference within yourself and the digestive system. It is usually 3-4 inches long. Appendicitis is the inflammation of the appendix and it could also be filled with pus. When appendix gets blocked, it results in appendicitis. If not treated carefully, it can result into bursting of appendicitis which can give rise to the other various problems. Appendicitis does not have specific symptoms and sometimes it gets very difficult to detect it. Appendicitis can cause severe pain and it increases gradually usually within 12 hours. Usually you will feel pain in the upper abdomen which will gradually goes to the right side of the abdomen. It can be a sharp pain and difficult to bear.

It usually it needs emergency medical attention. It can accompany with mild fever ranging from 100 degrees to 102 degrees. The person can feel nausea and can vomit 2-3 times a day. It is usually common in this illness. It can also cause diarrhea and constipation. It can also cause loss of appetite. It is a constant symptom of the appendicitis. The muscles of the right side of the abdomen can become tense and rigid. If the left side of the abdomen is pressed, then the pain on the right side increases. If not treated carefully, it can result into severe problems and sometimes it can lead to death too. So proper care and medical attention should be taken as soon as possible in order to treat this illness. To reduce pain, the person can lie down on one side or if he/she can draw his/her knees up to the chest. It will definitely give some relief from pain. Patient should take rest. It is of utmost importance. Patient should not be given anything to eat.

He/she can drink water. But he/she has to control his/her urge to eat. Hot pads can applied on the painful area to reduce some pain. The only treatment for appendicitis is surgery. Whenever a person gets this problem, he has to undergo through a surgery in order to get rid of this problem. once the surgery is done, the person is advised to take rest for at least 2-4 weeks in order to recover from the illness.
