What is an Obstetrician

An obstetrician is a doctor who specializes in taking care of pregnant women, the child in their womb and various types of diseases related to their reproductive system. They provide medical and surgical treatment to women who are pregnant or who have disorders of reproductive system which includes Pap smear examination, labor and family planning. An obstetrician is usually called as OB/GYN. Obstetrician and gynecological training goes simultaneously. That is why they are called OB/GYN. They provide medical care to the women at various stages of her life, from adolescence to pregnancy and then menopause. But it is not essential that all obstetricians are gynecologist. Some of them are gynecologist and some of them are not. So if you have any problem related to your reproductive system then you should consult a gynecologist.

Then he/she can refer you to an obstetrician if needed. If you are pregnant, then it is must to consult with an obstetrician as they are the only one who can help you in delivering a baby who is healthy and in a proper way. If you are unable to conceive, then also you should consult them as they will help you know the cause of this and will give you treatment so that you can conceive. When you deliver a baby, then it’s not only you who needs care but the baby also needs care. The obstetrician can help in taking care of the health of the baby. During pregnancy, the baby completely depends on you as it’s only you who will be providing him the essential nutrients.

So obstetrician will help to ensure that you are in perfect health to deliver a healthy baby. While consulting, you should keep it in your mind that you must consult a good doctor as his knowledge is highly important. An obstetrician can be a specialist in any area like adolescent gynecology, infertility, pregnancy and delivery, preventive health, cancer of reproductive system or organs etc. If he/she is not expert in his/her field then it might prove a danger to you and your baby’s life. So you must consult with the best and an expert doctor. The doctor must certify the examination given by ABOG and if only they clear it, they can be provided with the obstetrics and Gynecology certificate. So you must ensure that you are in safe hands otherwise it might cause some serious problem. But sometimes, in case of emergency unfortunate things can happen even from an expert doctor.
