What Is Diverticulitis
Diverticulitis is a condition in which poches i.e. diverticula develop in the muscles of the colon. Diverticula, which are like bubbles when becomes inflamed can cause diverticulitis. This can cause intense pain in the abdominal area of the patient. The exact reason behind diverticulitis is unknown. But the doctors say that it can be caused due to low fiber in the diet. When the fiber is low in the diet, it can lead to the infection of the pouches which in turn causes diverticulitis. The attack of diverticulitis will come suddenly.
Diverticulitis can cause pain in the lower left side of the abdomen and this is the most common symptom. It can also cause fever, chills, bloating, diarrhea, constipation, nausea and sometimes vomiting too. The patient might feel like not eating anything. It may also cause blood in the stool. Diverticulitis can be very painful so it becomes very important to see a doctor to cure it. Diverticulitis can be treated properly if it is diagnosed properly.
Diverticulitis can be diagnosed by performing an X-ray or a CT scan. Doctor can also ask for blood test to know the blood count. Once it is diagnosed, its treatment can be started. The doctor will give you the treatment according to the symptoms you are suffering from like how severe the pain is, how severe the infection is etc. The doctor will prescribe you some antibiotics which will help in reducing the infection of the diverticula. If you are feeling cramps and pain in the abdomen, then you can try some home remedies like you can use a heating pad on the abdomen which will give you some relief from the pain. You should try meditation which will help you in relaxing and in turn will help in reducing the discomfort. If the condition is worse and medicines are not being effective, then you might need a surgery to cure the problem. But it is not very common. In most of the cases, diverticulitis can be cured with proper medication and rest.
