What is Food Poisoning

Toxin food poisoning is caused by the bacteria known as Staphylococci. Foods that are commonly affected with Staphylococci are the meat products, synthetic creams, ice-creams and gravy of pies.

Besides bacteria, there are many other causes of food poisoning like:

  • The Presence of Metal contents in copper and lead pipes.
  • The Viruses that are normally found in contaminated water. They are smaller in size as compared to bacteria.
  • The Chemicals are found in weed killers and Insecticides.
  • The Plants like kidney red beans and toadstools that are not sufficiently cooked and thus cause food poison.

Many toxin chemicals that cause food poisoning are visible in number of food items like ripened potatoes, tomatoes and other vegetables. Solanine chemical is more harmful when consumed in excess.

Generally aged people and infants tend to be at a higher risk of getting inflicted with a food poison as they have a weaker digestive system. It may take a few days to get recovered from the effects of Common food poisoning. The period may however vary depending upon the severity of contamination.  

Home Remedies to prevent a Food Poison:

  • Commonly a poor and unhygienic place is known to be one of the major causes of food poisoning. It is thus, very important to keep your home hygienic and clean. The food should be kept well covered and protected from flies or insects that cause bacterial infection.
  • It is also advisable to avoid roadside food items that are cooked in an unhygienic place or are either kept uncovered for hours together.
  • A less severe food poisoning effect can be treated by following some home remedies like drinking boiled water mixed with sugar and salt mixture. A person affected with food poison can consume this water at regular intervals so as to prevent the effects of dehydration caused due to vomiting and diarrhea.

Diagnosis:

A patient can feel the symptoms of food poisoning in the form of headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal pain, fever, dehydration, diarrhea, cold sweats and loss of appetite. The diagnosis test can be concluded through various laboratory tests. A patient can also bring in the sample of the food consumed so as to make it easier for faster diagnose and effective treatment at a right time.

Treatment:

The treatment for food poisoning generally includes replacing salts, treating diarrhea and dehydration. It is also very rare that a doctor shall recommend an antibiotic treatment especially when a laboratory test demonstrates organisms. Thus, you can prevent food poisoning by complying with hygienic rules and maintaining a standard of clean environment. It is also necessary to follow rules for personal hygiene, keep the cooked food covered and maintain a regular healthy and fresh food diet.
