What Is Hematopoiesis

Hematopoiesis is the process performed in our body in order to generate and develop new cell which can replace adult cells. It is very useful and important process as without it our body will not be able to fight diseases and germs.

We know that our body has cells(often referred as good bacteria) which fights germs and performs certain other tasks in order to prevent diseases from our body. Blood cells do not have very long life period because it dies while fighting with germs or after performing its tasks accurately for certain time period. As developed blood cells die, new cells are required which can perform the same task. For this, production, multiplication and specialization of blood cells are done in our body. This process is known as Hematopoiesis. In simpler words, Hematopoiesis is the process in which old cells are replaced by the new ones. It is a continuous process which our body performs in order to develop sufficient blood cells.

There are several parts in our body where these cells are produced or multiplied for replacing the present ones. These parts consist of bone marrow, liver, spleen, skull, pelvis and bones that are located in the upper part of thigh. One of the five types of cells for blood is made by these areas. Five types of blood cells that are found in human body are granulocytes, erythrocytes, platelets, monocytes and lymphocytes. All these cells blood cells have their own tasks to perform but the primary motive of all blood cells are to protect our body from diseases.

In human body, Hematopoiesis process begins with a simple and most basic blood cell which is known as stem cell or Pluripotent Hematopoietic Stem Cell (PHSC). Different types of blood cells are added or multiplied by PHSC as it has the ability and responsibility to do so. PHSC divides and multiplies cells which results in more and more cells of new type for the placement. Dividing process of PHSC is important and useful because every time a cell gets divided, the new cell gets increased qualities and characteristics of an adult cell. And after it takes all the characteristics of adult cell it replaces the old cells which are presently active in our body.

It can be said that Hematopoiesis is one of the most important processes which is performed by our body. This is because it makes cells of different types which replace present developed cells of respective categories with the motive of performing its tasks for protecting the human body from diseases. These cells are developed in different regions of our body which are important for certain other works too. Sometimes, at the time of illness or any disease, more and more cells are to be developed by our body by undergoing Hematopoiesis process so that our body can recover as soon as possible.
