What is Music
Music is a primitive art form which ages back to prehistoric time. Every civilization around the globe considered it holy and the way to please their Gods. Technically, music is iteration of sound and silence in different pitches, rhythms, and sound dynamics.
This art form started in a way to talk to Gods in both auspicious and inauspicious ceremonies.A music incorporates melodies and harmonies repeating in a particular tempo with the flow of words. The word music is derived from Greek word mousike, which means art of muses. The Greek and the Indian civilizations are responsible for the birth of this art form.
Music through History
The development of music protocols was done in prehistoric age. The horizontal ordering of tone known as melodies and vertical ordering of tones known as harmonies where discovered by the prehistoric man.
However, music got professional status after the Renaissance. Renaissance was the time which changed the entire and gave to many art form. Around this period, the musicians invented different form, classical composition and other artistic forms.
After the end of Renaissance, Baroque era came and brought the globalization of music throughout Europe. Musical plays, operas, contrapuntal music become dominant. The invention of musical instrument such as clavichord, harpsichord, violin, and woodwinds took place. Musical forms such as fugue, sonata, and concert was also brought into existence in this era.
Classical era followed the Baroque era and brought homophony with it. The classical era is responsible for the existence of instrumental music as musicians of the era used instrumentals to showcase their operas and plays. The classical era become the century of legends such as Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, and Bach. All these legends were born in the classical era. Classical era is also responsible for the change in dynamics of music as musicians improvised a lot to create new symphonies.
Romanticism followed the classical era. The music become more passionate and more expressive in this era. Ludvig van Beethoven and Franz Schubert were there in the romantic era. The era added intense dramatics to operas and plays. The size of the concerts and orchestra expanded and the initial meaning of music was taken to a new level.
Music in 20th and 21st century
Evolution of electric musical instrument laid the foundation of present day music. Now, the operas and the plays was just confined to the high strata of people in the Europe. The end of slave rule brought African blues to America. These African immigrants gave birth to most renowned music genre which is known as Jazz. Jazz started its journey in America but within a decade it engulfed Britain and its colonies as well.
Jazz influenced many musicians and thus Rock and Roll was born in the 1950s. This led to the birth of many sub genres such as Classic Rock, Psychedelic Rock, Progressive Rock, Hard Rock, Metal Rock, Heavy metal, Grunge, and Pop. At present music genres such as Pop, Hip-hop, lounge, electronic, dance and sub-genres of rock are dominant among the masses.
