What is Physics

The natural science that studies about the behavior of the matter with regard to energy and time is known as physics. It can also be told that physics helps us to understand the behavior of the universe.  Astronomy being a part of physics has made this natural science the oldest academic disciplines. Physics as a part of study has no rigid definition. It can merge with various other interdisciplinary streams of study depending upon its application. For example, lately developed academic disciplines were the biophysics, which is combination of biology and applications of physics or the quantum chemistry which involves the application of physics with chemistry.

In this academic discipline, there are several core theories that are formed by physicists. These theories were standardized after repeated experimentation of the theory. These theories are to be learnt by all the physicists irrespective of their application field. Some of these core theories are the classical mechanics, electromagnetism, special relativity, thermodynamics and the statistical mechanics. There are many researchers conducted on these topics of study, new discoveries are made.

The natural science called physics has many applications to mankind with various other interdisciplinary streams of study. The term which is generally used for physics research is known as applied physics. Just like applied mathematics, applied physics is used either for research or for finding a solution to the problem. Some of the applications of physics are mentioned below: –

  • Physics has its major application in engineering. Thorough the principles of physics, man are able to create new items which are making his life easier. Theories of physics such as the electromagnetism helped in invention of new products which are of use to mankind for their everyday use. This is made possible with the right understanding of applied physics by mankind.
  • Physics has its useful applications in forensic sciences. It is through physics, one can create a virtual effect of something. For example, creation of flight simulators, video games and other virtual form of media do offer its application in forensic sciences. The virtual effects are lately used for entertainment.
  • The laws of physics are stated to be universal in nature. They do not change according to time. The right application of physics can make the work easier to develop new forms of technology.

These are some of the applications of physics. The main branches of physics are Thermodynamics, electricity and magnetism, classical mechanics, modern physics and optics.

 Hence, physics offers large help in simplifying the lives of mankind with the help of technology. Physics when rightly used can be beneficial, but if misused can lead to the end of the world.
