What is Plantar Fasciitis
Plantar fasciitis is a very frequent condition that occurs in the sole of the foot. Most of the times, the patients and the doctors alike get confused and mistake the plantar fasciitis to be foot spurs. There is a tissue, which runs along the tip of heal to the arch of the sole. This tissue is inflamed and the symptom is known as plantar fasciitis. Most of the patients who have plantar fasciitis are also known to have heel spurs. This is known to be about 70 percent of the patients through the X-rays taken.
The plantar fasciitis is a common phenomenon in the middle-aged women and men. However, it can also be found in people of all age groups. When the person experiences pain in the heel area or the sole, he will be put under diagnoses. The symptoms of the plantar fasciitis are extreme during morning hours when the person wakes up after sleep and stands up. The pain disappears or reduces quickly but reappears when the person stands or walks for long hours.
In some rare cases, the plantar fasciitis is associated with weight gain. It is noticed in some of the athletes who run for recreational purposes. However, it is confused to be normal pain in the sole as it can be caused due to repetitive sports activities. Thus, it cannot be diagnosed very quickly.
There are various causes of the plantar fasciitis. The prime cause is the irritation caused to the ligaments and connective tissues that runs from the heel bone to the ball of the foot. This is the tissue, which is very important to maintain the arch of the foot. It is also responsible for the weight transmission while the person walks or runs. Therefore, the tissue starts to hurt when it is stressed-out. A person who is suffering from plantar fasciitis will experience foot inflammation and this makes the normal activities of minimal walking very painful.
There are a few treatment options that one has for the plantar fasciitis. The first and the most basic step is to get rest. This means that the person should not stress himself with running and other strenuous activities. The use of ice packs will provide some relief to the inflaming soles. There are also certain exercises that will help in preventing the pains. There are also some anti inflammatory antibiotics and drugs, which are available as over the counter drugs. These should not be taken in excess.
Thus, diagnosis is very important to prevent severe consequences. Treatment can be given to the severe cases too but prevention is always better than cure.
