What is R&B Music

R&B Music is popularly termed as Rhythm and Blues music. R&B Music included a special type of musical tone specifically intended for black audiences. Rhythm and Blues music is a combination of gospel, jazz and blues. The concept of R&B music came to the forefront during the late 1950’s. The origin of this music was primarily in cities like Chicago. Slowly, acceptance of R & B music spread to other cities including New York, Memphis, Detroit, Philadelphia and Florence as well. Rhythm and Blues music was marketed by African American urban society. It was only at a later stage that R&B music slowly developed into soul music, electric blues and gospels as well. Slowly, funk music was incorporated with R&B music as well. One will be heartened to realize the fact that the latest form of R&B music was Contemporary R&B music.

Development of R&B Music

The development of R & B music is due to the combined effort of famous artists including James Brown, Marvin Gaye, Ray Charles, Issac Hayes and Aretha Franklin. The contemporary music of modern days is different from the forebears as well. The contemporary music of modern days primarily focuses on culture and pop beats. The previous edition of R&B music focused on jazz sounds, blues and gospel. Modern R&B music still focuses on gospel, blues and sounds. R&B music consisted of woodwinds, brass instruments, piano, drums and vocals in the late 1940 and 1950’s. The genre became immensely notable for its sexually suggestive lyrics and proactive dancing. It is without doubt a difficult task to mention top ten soul artists, who have contributed immensely in the growth of R&B music.
