What is Shaving Gel

Shaving gel is a slipping kind of an item proposed to apply before shaving. The reason behind advising to apply this gel before shave is to make facial hairs soft and resolve the problems of razor burn and skin irritations. These gels being lubricators take the shapes of containers and these containers may be tubs or cans. Companies that manufacture shaving gels more or less do manufacture shaving creams, as most fall in choosing based on their preferences.

Shaving gel Vs Shaving cream:

Most of the basic ingredients are found to be the same. However, to summarize I have listed few things:

  • Gels give pleasant shave compared to creams.
  • Shaving gels give faster shave compared to shaving creams.
  • Shaving gels give more efficient shave than shaving creams as gels open the skin pores making space for the razor to reach hair at the follicle. Certainly, shaving gels are quite expensive compared to creams.
  • Shaving gels do not form foamy texture on face, but shaving creams produce froth.

By and large, it remains as the personal choice of user to use shaving gel or cream.

 Ingredients of shaving gel:

Choosing shaving gel prominently demands few qualities such as should possess good lubricant properties to protect skin against razor. Your gel should posses hydrating properties, non-irritants, pleasing odor and easy to spread.  Fundamental ingredients of shaving gel are emollients, humectants, emulsifiers, preservatives, propellants and other ingredients such as polyvinylpyrrolidone, color, fragrance and other oils. Polyvinylpyrrolidone is also known as PVP helps the gels stick to skin.

Homemade shaving gel:

Ingredients required 1/2 cup liquid organic castile soap, 1/4 cup hot water, 1/2 tsp salt (preservative), 2 tablespoons vegetable glycerine, 2 tablespoons aloe vera gel or cucumber, 8 drops tea tree essential oil if necessary. Method: Firstly melt salt in water and mix all other ingredients together. You can store it in a pump bottle. Alcohols are used as an ingredient in some gels because it has antiseptic and therapeutic properties. However, this can be kept optional as it dries your skin and hence advised to use glycerin based gels.

To conclude as such products that are manufactured in the market use chemicals and cheap products are not recommended. It may be composed of strong perfume amalgamated substance resulting in skin burns and irritations. “Face is the index of mind”, beauty matters; take care. Many classy gels in the market use natural extracts such as jasmine and lavender for odor and fruit oils or organic extracts to maintain moisture on face. This results in soothing effect and provides pleasant shave proving time for the moment of truth.
